moris tepper : a hand carved life GOLONDRINA Who's that child goin' for a ride on a candy colored train With a wild eyed smile always singin' to the birds and walkin' in the rain And how many times you gonna' fly by my window and never stop to say hello But when I say goodbye I'm only talkin' to the sky 'cause you never leave a clue when you go I can hear you callin' in the sunlight thru the trees And in every dream I've had about those deep and milky seas So take my hand my love and follow me to Golondrina With a bowl of stormy weather in your eyes You got a beehive buzzin' in your hand And your words are spinning silk while the kittens spill milk Is it part of your perfect plan? And how many times you gonna' fly by But you never drop a jar of your jam When the night is long I feel you on the breeze And in every dream I've ever had of those deep and milky seas Oh take my hand my love and follow me to Golondrina Oh where's that child goin' for a ride on a candy colored train With a wild eyed smile singin' to the birds and walkin' thru the rain I swear I hear you callin' in the sunlight thru the trees And in every dream I have about those deep and milky seas You take my hand my love and then we're off to Golondrina Take my hand my love Golondrina Oh take my hand my love Oh Golondrina [ back up to album list ] THE DARNING OF THE SEASONS I could sing my love forever but I don't hear my love respond N' I don't think that she's ever gonna come back home She is gone to me forever and I had to carry on I see highways in the distance if I knew where she was bound I could never have imagined that I'd be hit by sound It was you that was the mountain it was me that was coming down Seven reasons to resist I couldn't see them all Now I am left here freezing and it's not even fall Seven bad decisions all in a row No matter what the season is you gotta let them go I was trying to make you happy I was dancing night and day You need protection I heard somebody say And I knew I'd been deserted and I could not find my way Cause we've all been abandoned but just don't let yourself down I had lost all my senses I was wandering round and round But If you mend all the fences your gonna land on solid ground Seven reasons to exist and nothings left for me No matter what the season was I had to set you free Seven bad decisions all in a row The only truth in life there is seasons come and go So we tried our best to help things and you know we always will But pride can be infectious it can cut through like a chill But it will always make a difference if you shine your light on down I will remember you as the lightning hits the ground I will always remember you as your lightning hits the ground When your lightning hits the ground [ back up to album list ] THE BEST MAN'S CLUB Watching the girls passing by But nothing you see will ever satisfy Just how long did you think this game is gonna' last I keep thinking about the day we met Even though it's the one I'm tryin' to forget You were hiding from the sun underneath an umbrella The way you held a gun you looked just like Cinderella I belong to the Best Man's Club We're all fools cause it's in our blood If you've got hope that this man can change You better wake up he'll only cause you pain And he won't be around when you come back again Oh I'm gonna wish you well But I'm taking the time that I need to spell All the words to describe why birds fly away I won't be sticking 'round here too long Maybe there's more to it than I'm wrong You were hiding from the sun 'neath an umbrella Just one look and I was gone forever To belong to the Best Man's Club Make a promise you're never gonna fall in love If you have hope that his heart you'll find Don't wait 'cause nothin's gonna change his mind Like a bird in the sky he's always gonna fly away And you may know why I don't care what they say And you may know that I'm still living in yesterday But I can't get by since I lost you I just got to get away Now I belong to the Best Man's Club We're all fools cause it's in our blood If you've got hope that this man can change You better wake up he'll only cause you pain And he won't be around when you come back again To belong to the Best Man's Club Make a promise you're never gonna fall in love If you have hope that his heart you'll find Don't wait 'cause nothin's gonna change his mind Like a bird in the sky he's always gonna fly away On the winds above away from love today [ back up to album takes She gives no reason and she fills the sky with smoke In the morning in the pouring rain When her people are worried and hungry She brings calmness over the land And hope back to the country Martha, Sweet Martha She holds her head so high when the wind blows through I said Martha, Sweet Martha She chased out the Huns and the Romans too Martha, Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo You better start running if she's coming' after you Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo She was my lover for a thousand years And still men talk about it She took me in Rome for a million lyre But I didn't care that much about it..not that much about it Me and Martha were so in love We truly had a strong connection But I woke up lying in a pool of blood I could've used a little more protection Martha, Oh Martha Don't ya' know who you're talking to I said Martha, Sweet Martha She slaughtered the Vandals and she banned all the Hula hoops Martha, Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo Just give up cause there's nothing you can do Must be her God is strong, Must be her faith is deep But even when she's gone, Her people never sleep A flame for her they keep Beneath the stars the threat was clear This was a job for the Clan of the Banaroo And then the sky opened up, You could count on her yeah Martha was coming through She leads the hoopers over the hill At the front of the pack dressed in rope No one questions the path she takes She gives no reason, she fills the sky with smoke Martha, Sweet Martha She holds her head high when the wind blows through Said Martha, Sweet Martha She swallowed all the Christians and she drowned the Jews Oh Martha, Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo She'll break your heart and she'll rip your head off too Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo Sweet Martha Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo [ back up to album list ] A REAL FINE LINE From deep in the heart where the starlight is glowing To down underground where the rich blood flows Send my message to the birds and the rose Freezing my time, slowing my hands For reasons outside, we didn't stand a chance How we had so little time here I will never understand There's a real fine line between us most the time And I know I'm not confused And so if I ask why we've let it all go by There's just too much to lose So we took a drag off the hour you arrived And we showed our love that way And I'm ten miles high But I'll never laugh again And I'm sorry how I left that day There's a real fine line between living and the dead And times as long as anybody knows If I could just resign to the life I've led And send my forgiveness to the rest of those Show me some time so I can find a way to live Oh, show me some time so I can find a way to forgive From deep in the heart where the starlight is glowing To down underground where the rich blood flows There's a real fine line between living and the dead And there's an instant between love and hate And the worlds we saw, they won't be here anymore Show me how before it's too late [ back up to album list ] THE DIVING TARANTULAS They were born to perform cabrioles Grand plié with attitude Sumersault and flips as they crawl across the floor Doing everything that they want to do Down by the river sparkling in the sun Early in the morning before the big clouds come Oh hear the water calling ''It's where we all belong'' They love to swim and smoke Sometimes they like to float Nothing makes a tarantula feel more alive Than a Sunday morning dive Jumping off a hippopotamus Just to find out where the bottom is Nothing makes them feel more anonymous Like a dream without a head Until she's back in my bed Until the day she comes alive I'll be waiting just to take this dive with her [ back up to album list ] THE MILKY SEA (INSTRUMENTAL) [ back up to album list ] THE PRETTY IDIOTS Baby I'm done living on the eastside of town And maybe it's time that we should say..it's time to move out Maybe this is the day that we finally figure out The ways of the world that we never had time to figure out Have you seen the pretty idiots Have you heard the things they've done And I know that we've all made mistakes I'm not blaming everyone And I know if they're still living here a hundred years from now The things we love just won't exist as long as they're allowed As long as they're around I've been a big fan of the days that they left and went away But they weren't gone long enough and now they're back and here to stay We better start packing it up and prepare to take flight Cause every time I turn around I can tell something's just not right Have you heard the pretty idiots They don't care about anyone They walk around oblivious to the damage that they've done And if we could only find a way to make them disappear But we can't go back to yesterday or wait another year How can I make it clear I said I'm sorry I knew this day would come When none could endure this pain But I'm worried I'm not gonna' be able to save you From the fury that's coming if we remain Have you seen the pretty idiots Have you heard the things they've done And I know that we've all made mistakes I'm not blaming everyone But if we plan on living here a hundred years from now The things we love just won't exist as long as they're allowed As long as they're around Have you heard the pretty idiots They're not fooling anyone And they walk around oblivious to the damage that they've done And if we could only find a way to make them disappear But we can't go back to yesterday and we can't live with them here How can I make it clear [ back up to album list ] IMAGINARY FRIEND I see what's comin' I saw it from the start You only got one purpose Trying to break my heart I know that summer will never come again But is this what you've been looking for An Imaginary Friend? Cause we just wanna know if you'll be coming back again Cause we just wanna know if you'll be coming back again [ back up to album list ] IF THE SEA WAS BLUE ENOUGH Gone in a blink Where did you go? And have you read the book of things that you should know After you came After all that you took But no book can teach you about the things you've overlooked If the seas were blue enough It might make this world feel small But the days I spent with you I miss the most of all You taught me the signs You showed me what's true You said, ''Don't listen to their words Just watch what they do'' Now everyone's gone And how you wish they had to stayed You were just too good at helping people find their way If the world was just more round So that everyone could see And If these rising tides could bring you home to me Oh I can still remember flying paper planes As we watched our shadows fade against the window pane And I still wake up hoping you'll be there Now the world is dark All the streets are red You can't go on believing all those things inside your head If the seas were blue enough It could make this world seem small But the days I had with you were never long enough at all If the world was just more round So that everyone could see And if this rising tide would just bring you back to me [ back up to album list ] WHEN NATURE CALLS It keeps talking to you every time you turn around It's lying in the grasses The pattern of your footprints laying on the ground Leaves such a sad impression If you keep wasting time you're gonna' have to break it like a bad habit It's not the time for foolish wishes No time to stop and wash the dishes Maybe if you read a book once in awhile Or even cared a little bit 'bout someone else's life I've had enough and now it's time to open up your eyes It's only Monday morning all the prisoners have escaped The sound of songbirds echoes of the walls You can hear the hunter's coming there's no time to hesitate Just keep running when nature calls All the world is waiting for you to break out of your cloud But I'd be happy just to know that you finally came around And this world keeps spinning by so fast They say that every dog has his day But it's clear that nothing here was meant to last It's only Monday morning all the prisoners have escaped The sound of songbirds echoes off the walls And the drummers keep on drumming to make sure that you're not late Are you listening when nature calls Talking to you laying it on the line I pledge my heart to keep living and learning And I wont give up, it's never enough And I don't wanna' hang you out to dry Talking to you, a whisper in the wind All the prisoners have escaped There's songbirds in the halls The hunter's coming don't look back Just come when nature calls [ back up to album list ] THE UNSTOPPABLE FORCE He moves through white winter atop of the hill Over the valley where the Magnus lays still He wears a cloak of gold inside the mountain As he returns from his journey through the snow No beast is blind and no wind plays with time, my love No surprise arrives without warning He dreams of holding on with his claws so strong And all the world is summing what's been paid in sacrifice And all the birds are humming for the smiles of paradise As his power rests for he will never see the day As the sun comes up over the horizon In silent bow, mysteries are all around us now Precise to the hour, perfume is released from the flower It's every purpose is calling out to say, in deep devotion ''I am here for the birth of a new day'' And all the world is summing what's been paid in sacrifice And all the birds are humming for the smiles of paradise A cloak of gold inside the mountain Footprints in snow are swiftly swept away [ back up to album list ] LEAVING IT ALL BEHIND (INSTRUMENTAL) [ back up to album list ] A HAND CARVED LIFE All songs written, performed, arranged, mixed and produced by Moris Tepper except: Golondrina Clavinet Nick Pierone The Best Man's Club Drums Katsy Konecky Shaker Mike Tempo Background Vocals Nick Pierone/Moris Tepper Sweet Martha Of The Banaroo Drums Katsy Konecky Background Vocals Nick Pierone/Moris Tepper A Real Fine Line Orchestration Rob Laufer The Diving Tarantulas Hand Drums, Percussion Mike Tempo The Pretty Idiots Drums, Bass Rob Laufer Electric Piano Nick Pierone If The Sea Was Blue Enough Background Vocals Mike Hamilton When Nature Calls Drums Katsy Konecky |

I thought I'd pay you a visit It was right after the thaw Wanted to give you a present But not what after I saw What did you do before? You wouldn't come to the door What did you do before? I bought a bar in Sebastopol 'fore everything went wrong I never thought I could fall in love She tried to prove me wrong She said she had to run She said she had to run She said she had to run I saw my baby at the close of dawn Already on the run Anybody can make a mistake What did you think you did wrong? Why did you think you'd be gone, mama Why did you think you'd be gone so long Everybody knows they're carryin' something Nobody wants to break the law Why did you go? [ back up to album list ] BLACKBONE CHICKEN I'm not talking about nerve I'm not tryin' to be reserved I know all the chicks swerve and time's tickin' And you know my little honey I like my warm bread buttered N' you're the one that keeps on stickin' Evening howls like a bloody wind When I hold you, you won't get scared again I'm not talking about birds Or their meaningless words Who gossip out on a limb You can have my money You can call me honey It's the least that you deserve But if you wonder why I crow while you lay eggs all day I'm a black bone chicken, I'm a black bone chicken I'm a black bone chicken, I'm black bone chicken I'm talkin' 'bout love I'm not a million miles up I'm right down here on earth I'm not talkin' 'bout strategy But your chicken anatomy just knocks me off a my perch But if you wonder why I crow while you lay eggs all day I'm a black bone chicken, I'm a black bone chicken I'm a black bone chicken, I'm a black bone chicken Well I'm a black bone chicken, I'm a black bone chicken [ back up to album list ] THE VISITOR I believe in only as much as I've seen and nothing more There just couldn't be any sense or good reason In what you've been searching for Oh this one's for the visitor so please come in I must inquire where you've been I have no eyes and I've never learned So please wont you show me the way Please wont you show me the way You got free from all of the cages Just when they needed you most If it of happened to me Ah alas my chance has passed Maybe once or twice I came close This one's for the visitor so please come in I must inquire where you've been I have no eyes and I never learn So please wont you show me the way Put your head on the pillow there's a fever that burns Please wont you never go away I've waited by the window, I've waited so long No use in going anywhere No use in living so stay Change has come It rained so long, so long Oh this one's for the visitor so please come in I must inquire where you've been I have no eyes and I never learn so please wont you show me the way Oh please wont you you show me the way [ back up to album list ] FOUR KIDS AND A BRONCO My body's weary and my arms as well And it won't take long before they ring that bell And I'm standing there where it all began The sky was filled with anticipation a hundred miles are long The road they drove was lined with flowers But their smiles looked wrong (their smiles looked long) And then before too long it was night And they Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely And so they stay and never fade away In the unknown they've found a home where they belong Down deserted roads that they've left behind And the hardest part is the white dotted line She drove and drove her four young ones Into the moon and the setting suns There was nothing left for her to do No home no bank account All her luck had just run out And on the old highway lays a camper shell And it won't take too long for them to ring that bell And I'm standing there where it all began And they Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely And so they stay and never fade away In the unknown they've found a home where they belong Down deserted roads that they've left behind And the hardest part is the white dotted line And they Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely They Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely They Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely They Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely They Shine and they Glow and they know it's not so lonely [ back up to album list ] SHOAL OF TANGS (INSTRUMENTAL) [ back up to album list ] IN THE MORNING In the morning in the rain In the evening sitting on the train No one's closer to my heart Should've never been apart Wanna' hold you in my arms again In the sunshine when I get high On that day I was meant to die There's nowhere else I wanna be No other face I wanna see Won't you lay here next to me for a little while It don't matter when the bombs start to blow What this world is coming to I don't want to know If it sounds like thunder and the water don't flow Wherever you are on this earth right now thats where I wanna go You heard footsteps by the door There's a letter laying on the floor And if you think it says goodbye There's a thousand reason's why It reads ''Baby, you're the one I'm waiting for'' And it don't matter what poison you drink You may not even realize this worlds begun to sink In the towns men gather and as the crowds start to grow It's straight in your direction that I'll be headed for In the morning in the rain In the evening sitting on the train There's no path that I can take That won't lead me to your gate Where I'll hold you in my arms again No there's no path that I can take That won't lead me to your gate Where I'll hold you in my arms again [ back up to album list ] TELL HER THAT'S WHY Hang your head You counted down all of your days You slept on your hands and dreamt of the transatlantic That you wanted to sail Come back home Your standing on solid ground You've got your waist in the water, 2 feet under trying to see things from the 3rd person Give her everything that she's needing Anything she requires If she's lookin' for a reason Tell her that's why Cloudy past But some things are never gone You're gonna turn a corner one day And realize that she was the one You know you've got to choose You've taken half a century With your heart on land and you're sails in the water So alone while you're so free Give her everything that she's needing Anything she requires If she's lookin' for a reason Tell her that's why Ring the bell It's time to go toe to toe The guard is off, the gate is open Won't you meet by the wishing well Give her everything that she's needing Anything she requires If she's lookin' for a reason Tell her that's why Tell her that's why Tell her that's why Tell her that's why Tell her that's why [ back up to album list ] OH NO, I HAVE TO GO Oh my God Does the cloud in the sky Make you laugh or make you high? Does the world going by Make you crash or wanna cry? People climb on your cat Going out wear a hat Why does everybody have to die? The rain is coming Oh no, I have to go [ back up to album list ] SECRET LIFE Little bit of clouds little bit of rain Snow covered mountains will never be the same Crossed the earth for a different view If it could happen to me it could happen to you I could see by the sign on the golden sands That I still hadn't made it home yet But I knew by the time I found my way thru these waves It was a journey I would never forget Out of the past and into the fire Not for the faint of heart But as it it all came cashing down to the wire I had to jump into the deepest part, the deepest part I am a secret man With nothing left to prove I live in my secret land Abide by my secret rules Nothing ordinary wrapped in a box Along with a note of devotion How many pebbles I had to toss Just to make it across the ocean The course was long and the fighting was strong And not a friend had I met But from the moment I caught a glimpse of her shores I lost every grain of regret Back in the day when violence ruled And all the men wore shirts But I'm way up here in the cold mountain air Just trying to figure out how it all works Just trying to figure out how it all work I am a secret man With nothing left to prove I live on my secret land Abide by my secret rules Abandoned by my brother-man With only my harpoon I tie myself to the sails And I ride by the silver moon Little bit of clouds little bit of rain An endless fire burnin' in my brain I crossed this earth for a different view It could happen to me it could happen to you, too It could happen to you It could happen to you [ back up to album list ] THE MORE I SEE Tell me what are these tools that we've made, think about it babe And the more I see down the road They say I have a side that's unknown And who will be a better friend than you? ''Oh hell'' I screamed, and I thought about it And how I found myself And I drowned the past wrapped in your sad blanket And I rode myself to bed Why are we doomed to go round and round, baby Sure as that skull on the shelf I'm astounded how you show me such grace as you descend You who have a deeper faith than me But the more you laugh makes me think about it And how I still blame myself ''And the sky,'' she laughed and then turned away and resumed the clouds swept past [ back up to album list ] BETWEEN US Thinkin' about you as I climb up my stairs Been thinking about you all day And if I have to I will go somewhere But if it's without you I can't stay 'Cause you've drawn a line between us And you've left no path to cross And the summer's almost halfway gone What we had seems now so lost It only takes a minute to discover the facts You can spend your lifetime tryin' to fix a flat I stopped by the roadside to help you out I'd be excited to, you could say For once in this lifetime I had found my girl I'm still thinking' about her all day But you've drawn a line between us And you've left no path to cross And the summer's almost halfway gone What we had seems now so lost With such a deep love between us Now we can never get back Why did you have to blow up everything between us Instead of facing the facts I wanna go outside in the pouring rain Where the ghost of our love shall remain And the ghost of our love shall remain Now you've drawn a line between us And you've left no path to cross And the ghost of our love shall remain And the summer's almost halfway gone What we had seems now so lost [ back up to album list ] FIFTEEN DAYS TO GO These people come from empires They've already lost their souls You don't stand a chance if you go among them The heat pressed on thru the summer I remember so well If you see too much you'll burn them out that way Seemed they might have been through here About a month ago They only had fifteen days to go We never thought we'd get hanged But one and one are two It's outrageous but no he wasn't brave He just had to fix the fence where his unsettled heart was open If you see too much you'll burn them out that way Seemed they might have come through here About a month ago Maybe someone you never saw before She might've talked to me then I might've got my baby back These people keep on coming They're heading for dry land The hunts back on to find a different man The heat pressed on through the summer I remember so well If you see too much you'll burn them out that way Seemed they might have crossed this way About a month or more They only had fifteen days to go I might've got my baby back These people Ohhh these people I might've got my baby back Ohhh Ohhh Ohhh [ back up to album list ] ASHAMED OF LOVE Cause I don't know Please understand me I have tried to find my way back to you I lost my pride, how can we Just keep on passing through N' I say keep my hands on my head Show the world I'm still dead Do those things that I must do But I must have been ashamed of love I must have been ashamed of love Yes I must've been ashamed of love 'Til I met you Now we got some shade Standin' on the edge of your hole I have sewn all I can from these sharkskin sails From deep inside how can we These things that life demands I say keep my hands on my head Show the world I'm still dead Do the things a man must do But I must have been ashamed of love I must have been ashamed of love Yes I must've been ashamed of love 'Til I met you 'Til I met you Go ahead now show your hand Kind enough to hurt someone The sky is shifting Somethings can't be undone The rain it comes and then it scatters With more of an au revoir than adieu So tell me why we pretended When we both really knew N' I say keep my hands on my head Show the world I'm still dead Do the things that I must do But I must have been ashamed of love I must have been ashamed of love Yes I must've been ashamed of love 'Til I met you 'Til I met you [ back up to album list ] BROTHER CAN YOU READ ME And it's strange how you showed me what they said If I heard you right, I'm deaf in the head From the first time that you saw me I was swimming for the shore Getting off on a 1000 ramps Trying to prove we were champs Have you been saving up yourself? Brother can you see me? As I'm climbing out your window Can you feel me in the treetops High up where the wind blows Brother can you hear me after all this noise stops? Oh Brother can you see me? Or can you read me at all? We'd go anywhere that was other than There's was chance of more than what they planned And the fortune of these kids wasn't broken and it wasn't hid As we tried to help each other through it all Did you keep me or did you lead me on? moris tepper : a singer named shotgun throat REDEMPTION RUNS FROM ME I see bluebirds fly by my window They only come by here but one time a year So why would you care anyway? And the law was changed on Monday As our troops were taught to never betray While everyone turned away But you could be my paradise and I could be your Northern Lights But in the end were gonna' pay the price Redemption runs from me ever since I was little Temptation grows on a tree right in the middle of our house Well I'm trying to find some piece of mind Where I can raise some good intentions Seems like nobody knows where that is So the next time you hear them knock You know they might take a little, they might take alot Just be thankful for what you've got Redemption runs from me ever since I was little Temptation grows on a tree right in the middle of our house And you know salvation is never gonna' come Until you finally learn to love someone Everybody's gone and it all falls down And the call you made.... i can understand, I understand Redemption runs from me ever since I was little Temptation grows on a tree right in the middle of our house Salvation comes around to those who can find it When redemption came to town, I must've been blinded And you know salvation is never gonna' come Until you finally learn to love someone But the bluebirds fly by my window They only come by here but one time a year So why would you care anyway? [ back up to album list ] SIMPLE MATH It don't take a telegraph All it is is simple math The distance between what you have And what you really need So he climbed up the bank and in the water he layed down 'Neath the crescent moon and the stars are all around With the forces battered but still the fight goes on Lost everything that mattered but you still can't see what's wrong Maybe that's your big mistake, maybe that's why you've never won Doesn't take a photograph To see your soul's been sawed in half Part of you stays stuck in the track While the other half wants to leave The past lies ripped and torn apart The field lays fallow, the flint won't spark And a man's commitment to leave his mark will never set him free My soul is sailing off on those perfect wings As he took to the sun he said, "I must deal with imperfect things" And he dropped his bow and arrow 'cause he knew his time was done And as he spoke to the boy from his carriage he said, "Knock 'em dead young one, no matter how fast it all goes by you're never gonna' get it all done" And it doesn't take a telegraph All it is is simple math The difference between the things you have And what you really need And you don't need a diagram To figure out the kind of man Who tries to do the best he can And unto this vow he heeds All the windows shattered It was a total eclipse of the sun Never knew how to kill But you sure knew how to stun It's kinda' hard to stack 'em up when there's none [ back up to album list ] PROMISELAND I got news for you brother There's a sound in the distance in the cold night air And it's hard to recover When the things you believe in just disappear Soon you'll discover There's some things in life even you don't deserve I got news for you brother It might seem bad now but it's gonna' get worse So much said but we hardly spoke Our dreams appeared on wings of smoke You got no rules to follow Nothin's gained if nothing's risked But If the hearts are hollow Then the seas are deep but your dyin' of thirst And it's a hard pill to swallow That the Promiseland just don't exist I got news for you brother We're gonna have to talk to the father first So much said but we hardly spoke And as time stood still we lost all hope And our dreams disappeared on wings of smoke It's a sticky situation But a man's gotta' do what a man's gotta' do And I've been waiting at the station I've been waiting for a train that will not come through No fair ending, Know that inside Change is as cold as the wind And I don't need to be sending out telegrams With colors watered down Yet solemn words sound so hard I got news for you brother It's getting mighty hard for the common man You gotta' move undercover Gotta' navigate any way you can You gotta' lie to each other Only so much truth that a man can stand I got news for you brother That's what's become of the Promiseland So much was said so little spoke And as time stood still we lost all hope And that sound in the distance Sounds more like a choking throat As our dreams disappear on wings of smoke I got news for you brother You can hire a firing squad but this'll have to come first And all the songs of sorrow Come from a dying man who's life was cursed I can't chew the bone All the road signs say that you can't go home And if you care for another You must be prepared to have it all be gone It's a blues for you brother There's some things in life you'll never understand I got news for you brother Don't put your faith in the Promiseland [ back up to album list ] IN THE SUMMER SUN Set in stone was the date of our wedding Went outside to find some way to explain And at that time as she gathered vines But not forgetting every word that is veiled in deceit Destroys every chance you've ever had of happiness I'm gone what's done is done They found the newborn one By the river among the reeds Laying In the summer sun My sweet young one Most say that men are no better than their ghosts I'll get my tombstone and hang out a sign So that you might be released I dropped my basket and ran like a sinner to communion Understand I never wanted to let you go It's not that bad to be a quiter if you ain't got the wood to make it thru the winter So I keep tellin' myself that it ain't that bad I've done what I've done For the freedom of a newborn slave Among the reeds n' the summer sun Lies the life I gave Found by a royal maid Done my day as I fold my hands upon my heart Break my bones in a fury over the desperate part Take my cure I'm gonna' drink it down like I always have to Go elsewhere where nobody will require my love I'm gone what's done is done They've found the newborn one By the river among the reeds Warm in the summer sun My sweet young one What I know is I never wanted to hurt you In my soul I was always only yours At that time as she gathered vines fro the forest As she tried to find some way to explain [ back up to album list ] POUND OF FLESH I got a pound of flesh to burn the mountain high who wants to know why? I think I've heard the precious bird I got a star that loves to burn Now I'm bound for a better town I got my fill of this rage and disease He pulled a 45 on his 2nd son On the violent seas I got a pound of flesh, a battle hymn A microscope and a mandolin And by this seed you have agreed to be bound within He's too far off to be guessing, This time you gotta get it right And when the sun hid behind a cloud at midday Bid her adieu as he swiftly slipped out a sight We had a love in silence You owned this heart of mine once Got a love that begs and barks Not one that understands I think I heard the precious bird I got a star that wants to burn I climb over rocks and I wrestle to win Too late to forgive or forget what he did Somethings are better left alone where they're hid But I"m gonna' track him down N' I got a pound of flesh, a battle hymn A microscope and a mandolin And by this seed you have agreed to be bound within And we've seen the forces gather In the dim and ashy light You can feel the flames just raging in me Bid her adieu as he swiftly slipped out a sight Ours was a love in silence I got a love that begs and barks Not one that understands When she releases she leaves a mark Then slips across the sand [ back up to album list ] INDEED I've never had much luck, think I might of told you Then I was dumbstruck by something new coming into view You might be everything that I've ever lost And I might need to bring one more horse 'Cause there just might be one more river to cross Indeed I'm telling you I care Indeed you know I want you here Indeed Think you've been around a pretty longtime Long enough to know about it All the sudden you've had to find A way to keep from slipping off this time And to keep on climbin' up Doesn't make much much difference what time or where If you can use my assistance I'm gonna' be right there So don't feel lost, 'cause it just might be One more river that's left to cross Indeed I'm telling you I care Indeed I'm sitting in my chair And I need to make you know it's clear Indeed We didn't need so much we We didn't have so long One day you look up And everything's gone We didn't want it all We didn't want it at all Doesn't make much much difference what time or where Don't feel lost, 'cause it just might be One more river that's left to cross Indeed I'm telling you I care Indeed I'm sitting in my chair And I need to make you know it's clear Indeed Indeed Indeed [ back up to album list ] DISHONEST JOHN The kitchen phone rings Something has to be done You can talk to the "Wall" about it He knows everyone If it's solace you seek Then things don't add up You better not look back too far you might see something you wish you forgot It's time to see what you can And what you cannot do Can you live out your life to the end Without spilling a clue A thief can't get work So he has to beg But he has too much pride to do that work So he steals instead Deep blue eyes and calm Dishonest John How I happened to lead this life And where it all began Back in my drinking days I, I killed a terrible man But the judge was a friend of mine And the bargain was right Sixteen years for me, I served nine And learned to read and write He always rises before the dawn Dishonest John When they buried my son here Under this grass so cold Where a moral truth is a hollow tooth Just crowned with gold I see no difference Between gambling and practicing Law Or selling the Elixir of Youth Or working with a carpenter's saw Everything is chance And that's the chance i took But it landed me in jail And I've been branded a swindler and a crook Steel blue eyes and calm Dishonest John For twenty long years I kept my secret buried Till it became too much weight For this old horse to have to carry So when I broke down crying and choking I had the memory of blue jays chattering all day and the smell of pine wood smoking Steel Blue eyes and calm Dishonest John He'll be gone before the dawn has come Dishonest John [ back up to album list ] SING THEIR PRAYERS AWAY When the hour came to meet you there You knew who held my fate My arms were just two alibis The branches were my veins My arms could feel your weight And you could feel the pain I only hope your door is oak And in your heart you're strong So that you can be rid of the personal things That you have held so long It's time to break this bond But you should be warned As you take a step towards The door that yet remains To reveal the things that burn the most Where wind rips thru the grain To sing their prayers away Everyone gets shorted some Memories never fade Hoping to find some distance Or some words that he could say In that wide open space There's a chance to slip away But with less of this you need more of that And it's just worthless to complain But the root of it all is the way you were left On that cold and crazy day When they sang your prayers away But you should be warned As you take a step towards The door that yet remains To reveal the things that burn the most The branches were my veins To sing their prayers away Bound for the red sun What's down the road? What's goin' on? I assumed I was done But I'm not sure of that now Can I sing your prayers away? To sing their prayers away [ back up to album list ] HOW MANY WAYS CAN A RICH MAN DIE? They got my mother to run I didn't have homeland security And like a father with his son I had to comb my heart for purity I'm on my way back home by my side Honey that's where I'm goin' comin' home to you How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways, How many ways, How many ways? I see my future in the road I'd always find my way of getting back I know the pathway to the soul But its hard sometimes to stay on track N' it's strange how he died right on cue, comin' home to you How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways, How many ways, How many ways? From a mysterious plane crash, or a sudden heart attack Or drown in his pool at night He could fall from a 5th floor window He'll go down with the seven strikes Stairways of light show the way my love And i will forever be the moon How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways can a rich man die? How many ways, How many ways, How many ways? How many ways, How many ways, How many ways? wailed Everyone in the room fell silent as the confession was read And the beam of misconception was a mirror to them all But with no time left for miracles Lord let me make this final call Hang me if it's true But don't give me your bad advice Tell me when it's through But don't look at me with those sad eyes When my time is done I will settle down and I'll hurt someone But until that time has come please don't give up on understanding Even though I feel afraid My hands are cold as they dig my grave But they don't seem concerned that the truth be found Some of them stand, some of them run, it depends on what they've done This confession was planned to play into the hands of each of you, everyone Hang me if it's true But don't give me your bad advice Tell me when it's through But don't look at me with those sad eyes When my time is done I will settle down and I'll hurt someone If you think you knew me then sign in here and make it clear [ back up to album list ] THE BALLAD OF SHOTGUN THROAT I was runnin' down the road It was right before the prohibition I had a half a ham hock stashed in my sock And the strangest intuition You've got to dry me up Before you take me out N' I raced through the back roads I sailed the high seas But if you want the real Mccoy You gotta' get down on your knees I watch the river as she rises I've got the moonshine in my eyes I don't want to have to leave this place forever But once I'm gone you might finally realize Who drank the juice Who tied the noose I'm on the loose again All I wanna' do is sing my song Gotta' keep runnin' all night long Everybody saw the hatchet job You gotta' get up and get out of the fog You have to dry me up Before you take me out And when I ask to see the justice You just convince me of my doubts I watch the river as she rises I've got the moonshine in my eyes I don't want to have to leave this town forever But once I'm gone you might finally realize Who drank the juice Who tied the noose Would this excuse explain Who cooked the goose Let's call a truce I'm on the loose again [ back up to album list ] TAKING OVER THE CONDUCTOR I'm taking over the conductor I'm gonna take that train while it's rollin' down this track I'm gonna hold that stoker I'm gonna' lock that door to the firebox room While he's turned his back Brakeman's gotta' wife and son In my heart I'm gonna' hurt no one Just tryin' to save my soul Don't wanna' die for the things I've sung But I keep trippin' over a four leaf clover that you left behind I'm thinkin' over all the things we spoke about How far it is to the county line And what lightning striker sent a hi-ball sign I got four million reasons that beg me to stay But I'll leave here with only what's mine I mean what I say and I know how it looks But I'm tellin' you I'm not that unkind I'm takin' over the conductor Escape anyway I can I'd go 5-7 years But this jury wants to hang a man I'm leaving on the 309 No time left to change your mind This ain't no lollipop, It's showdown time The bulls are kicking in the furnace room door And the brakeman's lying in the deadhead car I got four million reasons that beg me to stay But I'll leave here with only what's mine I mean what I say and I know how it looks But I'm tellin' you I'm not that unkind I gotta' keep hiding from the local law I've gotta' keep running from the things I saw May God protect me with his tooth and claw Taking over the conductor It's gonna be quick business But I keep trippin' that four leaf clover N' I wonder what your story is Doo do doo doo doo do doo doo Do doo doo doo doo doo do [ back up to album list ] TOMORROW'S TOO LATE I'm tired of thinking over everything I do And you know that I dont wanna be that way again When I saw the tide was shifting I informed everyone I knew That we don't have many hours left And there's still so much to do Tomorrow's too late Today's too long The sky is grey The world is over now Tomorrow's too late Be strong I'm awake, I'm awake And I'm calling on your devotion and your faith Tomorrow's just too late I would sail 'n ocean liner but I could not get away 'Cause this world is sinking faster than any boat ever could So I floated on my lonesome and I landed on your lawn It's only natural if you're wonderin' If I'm right or if I'm wrong Tomorrow's too late Today's too long The world is over The world is over now Tomorrow's too late the time has come As I lay here awake Tomorrow's too late And when it's gone this song plays on And so that sun was sinking fast And we thought it would never end And as I look back on the human race Thank you for the time we spent I must try to make it over and visit with my friends And take a step outside myself and see how this road bends I'm tired of trying to fake it, and it's time to make amends Don't stop yourself, don't hesitate, make it real before it ends Tomorrow's too late Todays too long The world is over The world is over now Tomorrow's too late So be strong I'm awake, here I wait Tomorrow's too late so I lay awake hopin' you'll come home And I'm calling on your devotion and your faith 'Cause tomorrow's just too late [ back up to album list ] |

That we should leave Bug's been found Time to reexamine things I'm a simple heart but I'm pretty sure You're the one that makes me happy But as the paint on the portrait dries Did we know then? couldn't see the eyes Maybe that's what I meant somebody's screamin' louder the mouth was shut and all sewed up so you couldn't hear the lies Divided we stand and united no man can hide from the spider cloud So I'm waiting for you To come out of your house And start talking without moving your mouth Oh maybe that's why you fell Maybe you breathed some powder Maybe that's what I spilled Baby that's how I kill Maybe that's what I sent All wrapped in a yellow blanket The mouth was shut and all sewed up But you couldn't see the eyes Divided we stand and united no man can hide from the spider might be everything you've always dreamed of Don't let the moment slip away No furious forces a here to control you Nothing remains now to make you stay Only 16 candles blowin' out (down) that place So I had to use a time bomb And gather up the pieces then begin to ressurect Everything you think of it, so much worse than you'd suspect I'm the one that wakes you up at night That knows where you've been I'm the path of contradiction When you know you just can't win Shake it up, kick it, loose let out Turn it upside down There's not enough money here to make you happy Who kicked holes in all the doors of your house? 16 years all melted on the ground Insinuating that you've learned your sound How long did it take for you to figure out the miracle Before you swept up the cumulus To measure out the depth of just how far away a scar is And wore off your fingertips trying to feel how hot the core is I'm the one that wakes you up at night That knows where you've been I'm the path of contradiction When you know you just can't win Shake it up, kick it loose, let it out Turn it upside down Then she broke my heart A bad thing to do I soaked in water But it reminded me of you It reminded me of you And how you wore off all your fingertips and you still don't have a clue I'm the one that wakes you up at night That knows where you've been I'm the path of contradiction When you know you just can't win Shake it up, kick it loose, let it out Turn it upside down Shake it up, kick it loose, let it out Turn it upside down Shake it up, kick it loose, let it out Turn it upside down begins to doze the bravest of the chosen no matter what they try will find that the way is closed if i could only wake up and break out of this but i can't stop thinking about you but it's sweet what you'd say to me everything was wrong, so wrong and the things that we failed to see now that you are gone, so gone say there's something on my mind you will be the next thing I will come to after that, after that Failure of devotion the brokenhearted brand a love that noone knows in the early morning hours a most delicate advance will trample down the rose On hills the snow is melting color believe that you don't see That you and me are forever And her mouth hangs down And her mouth hangs down I see the breakin' clouds I read the hemisphere It almost seems as if I've been forgiven I can that I dream in my name is a world that I just can't tame Something you never saw Came from out of the blue You were carried away and dropped down thru To the storm at the bottom of the ocean and these winds of change hold still some days but they're ready to steal how much a man's life pays They say "take it away" but they just don't mean it and with the money they made they intend to keep it but don't it break you're heart, waiting so long workin' your back out from that hard earned place under the gun It's a beautiful storm down at the bottom of the ocean N' nightime sun at the top of into the Badlands N' I knew I'd pay the price There was dirt dug up and a deadman's luck And a name that had no sound Some paper loans A horses bones But no money was ever found Some of us free Some of us ain't But to Mrs. Bodeen you can file a complaint First funeral of a friend of mine People were shifting in the sun Everyone took a final look Before they had to run Now he's gone and you say I slept in snow But you left me in the valley where the trees don't grow I'm the one, the one that reminds you Of what you've done at the ending of the story Go have your fun, but when you finish make me think of Was a washed-out scene when I was astray Called my hellhound dog up from the canyon N' I called him Champagne in a vacant way Don't be tellin' me why I, I should call Don't be tellin' me where my fingers have grown, It may not make no sense to the man in the black and tan I was torn between them Ten Foot Tall Brother's want to bleed And mothers want to breed There's a scurryin' in the Land of The Ten Foot Tall Like any self-respectin' man I know the things I can And the things that I cannot turn away Summer's gonna' break and the gunner's on the take It's hollow in the Land of The Ten Foot Tall The swallow's gone to sleep But trouble still runs deep There's a somethin' in the Land of The Ten Foot Tall Now when ''Man Greed'' showed his face I was tempted to say There's nothin' left between us I can mend But as his troubles headed deep I cursed the ground and tried to keep my senses N' burrowed in The Land of The Ten Foot Tall It's written on the wall All things left Now we're out in Arizona where everything is wrong And we've taken all the apples off the tree There were golden grapes for kissing, purple flowers for the dawn There was even a place to hide the moris tepper : big enough to disappear CAN'T STOP CRYING Out in a graveyard way out west He hears his future calling It's impossible to get some rest With all these ashes falling Remember the days we stood our ground And the torch we carried Now times when I look around Everything seems so scary Seems like the dark is getting darker Maybe I should go inside Where no one waits for me With her arms open wide I see the stallion shout his obscenities At the empty sky No one owes him more than me And for this I must apologize (chorus) Right now my feet feel stuck in plaster I musta' drunk a pint of turpentine I smell smoke, run from disaster I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying Out in the hall they're ill at ease I hear them grumble, groan and whine Back in the ballroom she turns her heel And donates a painting to the blind I run through these muddy fields Trying to gain myself a few yards But I go hungry at every meal Now my hands can't even deal a deck of cards (chorus) Right now my feet feel stuck in plaster I musta' drunk a pint of turpentine I smell smoke, I run from disaster I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying I wonder if I'm under your spell Anything is possible I met a man he said he knew you well But they were rushing him off to the hospital A big red river flows over the sand We'll watch the war on replay Clutch the bomb, crush the hand Blow you all to doomsday Ghosts appear in the patterns of my T.V. set n' lambs jump over the fence If I ever wake up I'm gonna find out the hard way You can't trust anyone who burns incense You can't trust anyone who always burns incense (chorus) Right now my feet feel stuck in plaster I musta' drunk a pint of turpentine I smell smoke, run from disaster I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying I want to love you but I can't stop crying [ back up to album list ] BANKSHOT A thousand seconds and a hundred nights It ended all too soon Now I try to see you by candle light And bankshots off the moon And all the passing faces Remind me of vows we did take Not enough of a reason For either one of us to remain (chorus) Once I looked into your deep blue eyes You captured my soul I knew I was surrounded At the watering hole I could not stay there I could not remain With so much to sacrifice And so little to gain The odds were against us Our timing was bad We tried to make it through But the force overtook us We lost what we had Now its bankshots off of the moon Where is the love we needed The colored rocks we shared Have all but been forgotten I can't find them now anywhere (chorus) Once I looked into your deep blue eyes You captured my soul I knew I was surrounded At the watering hole I could not stay there I could not remain With so much to sacrifice And so little to gain You know the day that I met you The birds flew high in heaven Now I can't forget you But I can't go back again (chorus) Once I looked into your deep blue eyes You captured my soul I knew I was surrounded At the watering hole I could not stay there I could not remain With so much to sacrifice And so little to gain [ back up to album list ] THEN WE'LL SAIL I rub my eyes and try to wake myself From this unpleasant dream Seems like only yesterday I heard the first mate scream None of us is gentle Because we live out on the sea Still it brings salt water to these eyes Remembering how cruel those bums could be All that filled my pockets As the clouds turned into bones Was the bounty of a baptist minister And some cries from the unknown Still they tried to kill me Though their plan had one small quirk Now I'm seeking my revenge And how I love my line of work (chorus) If you can find your own way back Fit this moon into a pail Bring me six doves in a sack And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail Can't put this weight on my shoulders down I could not bury it I have to carry it around And now my ship lies capsized And the wind is blowin' And my soul is baptized by this bitter gale And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail Twiddle-thumbs and Bolivar Did help me to achieve Tracking down their bodies To a place where widows grieve Compassion for them pounded me Like waves upon a shore Though I'd been robbed of every pleasure That I'd followed them there for (chorus) If you can find your own way back Fit the moon into a pail Bring me six doves in a sack And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And now my ship lies capsized and the wind is blowin' Let my soul be baptized by this bitter gale And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail And then we'll sail [ back up to album list ] DONE WRONG Some people feel like bad luck Is just a freight train ready to roll Somewhere down the track You may get some distance But you'll never get her out of your soul I only hope if you get stuck once You might call me to bring you some gas After all it's the last thing I could do (chorus) My love is like a rock Hurts so much I can't talk to you And though we've stopped the clock You keep burning up this heart of mine I feel the flush of a memory As I entered the empty room Where we once stood as bride and groom Without a thought in my head I must've picked up a dangerous broom I guess that ancient dust Should not have been stirred up No matter how long I wait It always seems too soon (chorus) My love is like a rock Hurts so much I can't talk to you Though we've stopped the clock You keep burning up this heart of mine My love is like a rock Hurts so much just to talk to you And though we've stopped the clock You keep burning up this heart of mine Even now I would still turn back If I had a reason to stay My eyes are open and the sky's turning black I kneel beside the river The wound still hasn't gone With patience to deliver me From things that I've done wrong Things that I've done wrong Still I can't find no happy home [ back up to album list ] THE STAIN Lately when I crumble crackers It reminds me of those days We used to drive them backwards Over the dried up fields of clay Memories so real to me I can almost taste them I dodged cannon balls and Christmas trees Just to bring you the big blue bracelet (chorus) I said my, my when you go by Must you cause such a commotion I wash in your water three times a day But I still can't pledge my devotion Ain't it a shame, ain't it a shame So much grief, no relief It's always the same I picked a four leaf clover Hopin' that my luck might change It didn't take me very long to down like rain (chorus) If you really want to hurt somebody You know exactly what to say One day you're gonna' find you need him badly By then he'll be too far away Did you not think love was sacred And the kisses so sweet Has the memory faded Like the flowers at your feet When the wind blows hold it steady And if you hear loud guns get ready Choose your exit and head for the open road If your send the children on their merry way (chorus) I see my lifeline run deep I seen a spark that I could not keep So unlike me to be unstable I'm so sorry that I fell asleep At your dinner table At your night Just hiding from the world we'd seen But the world won't change 'Cause I had you Then the scratch of life Came burning through And now you're gone I can't go on Inside I am lonely But outside its nearly dawn (chorus) Don't put out the fire That burns beneath the skin Or the rhythm of the heartbeat Beating from within What makes us love Makes us weep You've got a scratch of life That runs so deep With a hole in the side of my coat And a little tickle inside of my throat I been standin' on the corner Late at night Just waiting for the lights to change And who was there but you Dressed in your evening gown Who was in those pictures Laying on the ground Didn't take no psychic To foresee what you'd do I was snow-blind and unsteady But like a fool I fell for you (chorus) Don't put out the fire That burns beneath the skin Or the rhythm of the heartbeat Beating from within What makes us love Makes us weep You've got a scratch of life That runs so deep Well the sun goes down at home Where we both could never be How hard I tried to reach you To unfold that mystery The scar has healed But the war goes on We had such high hopes It was the one thing in common Now each of us has some story down 'Bout how we've been lost And how we've been found Now I'm in the car and its raining down So good to see the water as it falls to the ground (chorus) Don't put out the fire That burns Meet me at the bottom of the deep blue sea Ambition turned to greed And the things we loved became the things we need A cry went out all hands on deck But no crew was found And soon the ship was wrecked I decided not to stay Knowing good and well Things would end that way With the power out and the work ain't done Baby the bad times had just begun (chorus) Hey, Hey, Man Overboard Might be you and it might be me Let me know when you find the answer Meet me at the bottom of the deep blue sea Oh sometimes I remember that once I had a home With dogs and cats and a stove with gas Even had my you jump in Me, I sleep with them fishes and Dutchmen that fly (chorus) Hey, Hey, Man Overboard Might be you and it might be me Bring me the buckets and fire the doctor Meet me at the bottom of the This was the land that ran through his blood. This was home for Eggtooth. Eggtooth and his best friend Feverhead explored every inch of the area on their daily wanderings. They would turn over the rocks and watch bugs. One day Feverhead had to stay home n' rake up leaves for a soup for visiting relatives. Eggtooth was on his own that day to explore. He climbed to the top of the ridge. From there he saw a town that he'd never visited. He decided to go down. The town had no name, no clocks, but the citizens had all the time in the world. Like fish swimming upstream. They had funny names like Ionesco and Dupont and their hands looked like fat, red inflated rubber gloves. Their heads were simple geometric shapes; triangles, rectangles, squares, even a few trapezoids. But their personalities were anything but logical. Warm, happy, sad, an emotional people these were. They told Eggtooth simple truths like, "Starve a fever, feed a cold". "No time like the present." "Home is where the heart is." Eggtooth danced his feet sore with the villagers and then they sat around and tore up the floorboards to watch the bugs and mice scurry from the first light. Eggtooth asked why moths fly into the light and bugs and mice run away from it. One of the elders explained, "One man's meat is another man's potatoes." Eggtooth thought about this all the way home. He had so much to tell Feverhead about....tomorrow. [ back up to album list ] THE TREES THAT SHADED US This is a story about losing your heart Not about giving it away Somebody took it and tore it apart Then the tear drops The lights go out And the door locks And there's nothing left to say (chorus) I stood and I waited As long as I could 'Till the things that felt right once No longer felt good And the trees that shaded us Now bend and twist And the things we waited for No longer exist...anymore With a matchbox in your fingertips I hear the scratching sound As you try to light a new way I would have given everything I ever had To be near you When the lights go out But I'm leavin' 'Cause there's no reason I should stay (chorus) I stood and I waited As long as I could 'Till the things that felt right once No longer felt good And the trees that shaded us Now bend and twist And the things we waited for No longer exist...anymore (chorus) I stood and I waited Waited until 'Till the river was dried up And the ocean stood still And the trees that shaded us Now bend and sway Telling me the time has come To be on my way [ back up to album list ] FOR THE BRIDE I had a dream that I had spent Another life with you And this one's no accident We shall see it come to pass This ain't no dream and now your mine until the last (chorus) I'll take a patch of blue sky To wrap around you while you sleep I'll take the latches off of my door I'm gonna' let you in so deep And surround you with clouds and pearls Now that you're my girl Something in my life becomes complete I had a dream most every night There was something on the other side That I could not quite get to But to see you here Standing, dressed in white It seems to me that I have finally broken through (chorus) I'll take a patch of blue sky To wrap around you while you sleep I'll take the latches off of my door I'm gonna' let you in so deep And surround you with clouds and pearls Now that you're my girl Something in my life becomes complete [ back up to album list ] TIKI-TIKI BOOM-BOOM Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Boooooffffff He couldn't sleep because of the rain, so he decided to walk to the seashore and listen to the breakers. On his way to the beach he stumbled onto a field of yams and magpies. Eggtooth was suddenly very hungry and he wanted to dig up the yams but first he had to rid the field of the magpie birds. He ran towards them spinning round and round, holding his arms straight out. This just delighted the birds and they laughed at Eggtooth and dropped berries on his head. And then Eggtooth got so dizzy that he fell down and the ground and sky began to spin around him. The world turned so fast that it threw the birds out of the trees and the sky and finally Eggtooth was rid of them. He got up and began to dig for the yams. He dug and dug but the yams held fast. Eggtooth got frustrated. He gave the yams one last angry kick and walked towards the beach to catch some fish because by this time he'd become stark raving hungry. But from behind him he heard the sound of many small feet running. He turned around and saw the yams coming to get him. Some of them had one foot, some had two feet, some had three feet, and some had four feet. And as they came at Eggtooth it sounded like this. Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Tiki-Tiki Boom-Boom, Tiki-Tiki Boom Boooooffffff Eggtooth ran as fast as he could and the yams ran right behind him. Eggtooth jumped over the creek and the yams jumped over the creek. Eggtooth galloped towards home and the yams galloped all the way. Eggtooth ran into his yard, passing his good friend the gate and he yelled, "The yams are after me, don't let 'em in, help!" The gate liked Eggtooth because Eggtooth never slammed him. So when the yams came to the gate he slammed closed on their heads and they broke into little pieces that Eggtooth gathered up and brought in the house and threw into the simmering pot. And to this day when Eggtooth even thinks of magpies, he remembers the sound of the yams as they chased him through the forest that dreadful night. Hungry, hungry, always hungry. Eggtooth climbed down from his bunk longing for pancakes. It was warm inside n' the big pot sat on the fire. Eggtooth sat next to it warming his feet. He noticed out of the side of his eye that it had shifted, turned slightly. And soon the simmering pot began bubbling and boiling. And as he listened the sound from the pot began speaking to him, drawing him into it's spell Thrown like a fish back into the stream Make my wish come true in this dream Burn a lot of wood Things get hot Throw another bone in the simmering pot Eggtooth fell into a dream. He was staring at a crack in the side of a rock where thousands of small black bugs were pouring out and screaming at each other at the top of their tiny lungs. It seems there had been a vote for a new Queen and Kings and no one agreed on anything. Some were holding small signs with messages like, "Don't feed us sugar." "More T.V." "We want shoes." The uproar became so loud it shook him from his spell. He woke up to see the pot scuttle across the floor and back to its place on the fire. Thrown like a fish back into the stream Make my wish come true in this dream Burn a lot of wood Things get hot Throw another bone in the simmering pot The chanting pot had Eggtooth back under its spell. This time he watched as a serpent crawled on its belly towards him. As the snake spoke the words appeared floating behind him in large stone letters. "Ahem, ahem, ... Words, words, words are formed by letters. Letters come from the alphabet. And the alphabet, haah! Well just take a walk down my long hall. I'll show you how the alphabet is made." Eggtooth knew the snake was trying to trick him into becoming dinner. He felt himself hypnotized by the snakes eyes. So he shook himself awake to find the room was dark, except for the glowing coals beneath the pot. Thrown like a fish back into the stream Make my wish come true in this dream Burn a lot of wood Things get hot Throw another bone in the simmering pot [ back up to album list ] SUNDOWNER (INSTRUMENTAL) [ back up to album list ] |
